Overview
The tour begins with an approximately four-hour guided exploration of San Francisco. Throughout the journey, a fully narrated experience introduces you to the city’s history, character, and iconic sights. At several key locations, you will have opportunities to step off the bus, take photographs, and enjoy the views.
Your route spans the city from the Bay to the Pacific Ocean. You will visit major attractions such as the Golden Gate Bridge and either Land’s End or the Palace of Fine Arts. A stop at Twin Peaks offers a sweeping 360-degree panorama of the city from 1,000 feet above sea level. As the tour continues through Golden Gate Park, you will see seasonal flower displays, watch for grazing bison, and pass historic windmills that overlook the coast.
Along the way, your guide provides insight into San Francisco’s early settlements, from its Native American origins and Spanish missionary period to the excitement of the Gold Rush. You will also travel through the historic Barbary Coast district and into the Haight-Ashbury neighborhood, where rows of iconic Victorian homes showcase the city’s architectural charm.
The tour concludes at San Francisco’s waterfront, where you can take in expansive views of the Bay and Alcatraz Island. From Pier 39, you will board the Escape from the Rock cruise operated by the Blue and Gold Fleet. This boat tour circles Alcatraz Island twice, offering close-up views of the former prison, stories of its most famous escape attempts, and a striking perspective of the San Francisco skyline. You may even spot harbor porpoises, which have returned to the Bay in recent years. The combined land and sea experience provides one of the most complete ways to discover San Francisco.

Escape of the Rock is operated by BLUE & GOLD FLEET at different times depending on the
season (check Blue&Gold operations for updated schedule). Typical PM departure times
are:
