Overview

Warsaw is one of Europe’s most historic cities and still one of its most important. It’s packed with magnificent architecture, grand avenues and beautiful green spaces. There are two routes and more than 20 hop-on hop-off stops in the city, so you’ll get to see all that Warsaw has to offer.

The first place we recommend to hop off is the Warsaw University Library. It’s a unique building and its spectacular roof garden, one of Europe’s largest, is well worth a visit. The views over the river are some of the best in the city. When you come down, why not take a wrong along the river on the Vistula Embankments. It’s a brilliant place to relax.

When you’ve finished enjoying the natural charms of the river, head for the Old Town. This is the city’s historic centre. The Old Town Market Place is the best place to start here. First laid out in the 13th century, it was destroyed by the Nazis during the Warsaw Uprising in 1944, but was rebuilt after the war. Today, it’s one of the city’s most popular attractions. Another highlight of the Old Town is Castle Square, so make sure you hop off here. The Royal Castle, located in the square, was once a home to the Polish royal family, but is now a fascinating museum.

Hop off at the Warsaw Rising Museum to learn about this important event that took place during the Second World War, when the Polish Resistance rose up against the city’s Nazi occupiers. It was the biggest resistance operation anywhere in Europe during the war. By the time it was all over, as much as half the city had been destroyed and thousands had died. It’s a fascinating museum and must-visit when you’re in the city.

For something completely different, hop off at Lazienki Royal Park, an enormous park-and-palace complex that is one of the city’s most spectacular sights. And on Fridays, admission is free. There’s only a fraction of what Warsaw has to offer so choose a 24, 48 or 72-hour ticket and start exploring!
