Delve deeper into the history of Warwickshire with our tours of Warwick and Stratford-Upon-Avon. Our self-guided podcast walk through Warwick will unveil some of the stories and anecdotes that make Warwick the wonderful town that it is today. This old town has witnessed some of the most historically significant times in British history such as Celtic settlements, Saxon invasions, and Medieval war. Only 20 minutes away from Warwick you will find the charming town of Stratford-Upon-Avon, where you can discover the quirky tales and mysteries that live on in this quaint market town. Our self-guided podcast tour will uncover more on the life of William Shakespare, and we discover his birthplace and other lesser-known stories about the greatest writer in the English language.
On our Stratford Upon Avon tour, we will discover the following:
This tour starts at Shakespeare’s Birthplace Museum – we’ll start by giving an overview of Shakespeare’s childhood, his father, what the town was like and the structure of the building.
We continue on to Judith’s House where we stop briefly to hear about Judith and Hamnet, Shakespeare’s twins, death of Hamnet and subsequent writing of Hamlet.
Our next stop is the Garrick Pub and Harvard House – Katie and Colm will talk us through its links to Harvard University in the States and we’ll also learn about David Garrick and his role in bringing Shakespeare back to mass popularity.
We will then amble across to the View of New Place, Thomas Nash’s House and the Guild Chapel. This is a great opportunity to learn about Shakespeare’s later life in Stratford as a wealthy and successful man.
We then reach Shakespeare’s Schoolroom/Edward VI Grammar School where we pause to discuss the big questions about Shakespeare and the conspiracy theories about who wrote his works.
Hall’s Croft is our next point of interest and we will learn about Susannah (Shakespeare’s other daughter) and her husband ,Dr Hall, the medical profession at the time and Hall’s role in it.
As we approach Holy Trinity Church and Shakespeare’s Grave, we delve deep into Shakespeare’s connection to this church; as well as the epitaph he wrote himself and the legends and mysteries surrounding the supposed removal of his head…
After a beautiful walk along the river where lampposts donated by countries all over the globe can be seen, stop at ‘Dirty Duck’ or the ‘Black Swan’ where the actors in Stratford drink.
Finally, we end the tour at the Swan and RSC Theatres – We end this tour with an insight into Shakespeare’s legacy and the impact he has had on the English language and our popular consciousness

We then continue on to Castle Gate/St Nicholas Church, where we discover just how big an imprint the castle has on the town by checking out this Castle Gate, in this quintessential corner of Warwick
As we reach St John’s House, we explore the grounds of this sprawling historic home, hosting a beautiful Victorian kitchen, classroom and toy displays, as well as a fascinating museum and gardens you want to get lost in.
Next up is The Roebuck Inn - Poke your head into Warwick’s oldest Public House before heading up Smith Street and into Warwick’s Old Town. We continue onto Eastgate - One of three gateways into the town of Warwick.
Wander past the Warwickshire Yeomanry Museum, a building aimed to protect the heritage and memory of those who served with the Warwickshire Yeomanry – situated inside the Court House
We then reach St. Mary's Church (almost 900 years old) and discover St Mary’s long history and fascinating architecture.
Head to the market hall, a 17th-century landmark in the heart of Warwick, before exploring the surrounding market area until we reach West Gate - Famous for its fantastic tea room, this medieval structure is where the Guildsmen of Warwick met around this very same table that sits today, 600 years later
Finally, we reach Warwick Castle where you are free to venture inside and discover this iconic landmark
