Overview
As Jules Verne's timeless classic Journey to the Centre of the Earth begins in Snæfellsnes, so will our adventure. It is a place of great historical importance and captivating landscapes. Black sand beaches, formidable cliffs, regal mountains, volcanic craters and Snæfellsjökull glacier are just a few of the attractions we'll see during the trip.
On our way to Snæfellsnes National Park we'll meet some of Iceland's local wildlife at the beach of Ytri-Tunga, which is home to a seal colony and a variety of seabirds. Before entering the national park, we'll visit the small fishing villages of Arnarstapi and Hellnar, and see the famous black church in Búðir. Then we explore Djúpalónssandur the black-pebble beach where remnants of decades old shipwrecks can be found, and the cove of Dritvík.
Next, the tour goes to Lóndrangar, dramatic tall basalt cliffs by the coastline, before ending at Kirkjufell mountain. Kirkjufell is probably Iceland’s most famous mountain, renowned for its beauty and unique shape.
Snæfellsnes is a region rich with geologic and historic significance, made even more enjoyable when you have someone who knows the ins and outs of the area and has some great stories to share.
