Overview
A royal residence for over 300 years, Kensington Palace has been home to some of the most iconic members of Britain's royal family. It was within the walls of this intimate palace where Queen Victoria was born, while more recently it has been the home of Diana, Princess of Wales. Today, it is the official London residence of TRH The Prince and Princess of Wales and their children. Inside the State Apartments, adorned with an impressive display of paintings from the Royal Collection, you'll catch a glimpse into the private lives of the British royal family.
Victoria: A Royal Childhood
Discover the story of Princess Victoria, the young girl destined to be queen, in the rooms where she was born and raised at Kensington Palace.
To celebrate the 200th anniversary of Victoria’s birth, this permanent exhibition explores how an indulged young princess blossomed into the independent and iconic monarch we remember.
The display includes remarkable objects relating to Victoria's early years – including a poignant scrapbook of mementos created by her German governess, Baroness Lehzen, and Victoria's doll house.
NEW EXHIBITION: Untold Lives: A Palace at Work (until 27 October 2024)
A new exhibition at Kensington Palace, uncovering the forgotten stories of those who worked at the royal palaces over 300 years ago.
They were at the centre of royal life, but little is known about the servants and courtiers who ran royal palaces for centuries. From pages to cooks, from wetnurses to seamstresses, a host of workers managed life at Court and used their skills and expertise to look after the royal family and their homes.
Now, for the first time, the lives and contribution of these forgotten figures will be explored in a new exhibition, created by the independent charity, Historic Royal Palaces.
Untold Lives: A Palace at Work will shine a spotlight on the overlooked people from all walks of life who worked tirelessly — often behind-the-scenes — to maintain, protect and promote the monarch and the royal palaces.
