Overview
GET UP CLOSE TO WILDLIFE
Set in leafy Regent's Park amid heritage-listed buildings and beautiful gardens, London Zoo is an oasis in the heart of the capital with just under 15,000 amazing animals to discover.
The Zoo’s biggest experience, Land of the Lions, gives you the chance to get closer than ever before to the mighty Asiatic lions – of which only 400 remain in the wild. You can explore walkways covering the 2,500sqm Indian-themed exhibit.
Officially opened by HM Queen Elizabeth II and HRH Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, in March 2016. It is designed to inform, inspire and excite wildlife lovers of all ages and promises to be an experience unlike any other.
Come face-to-face with one of nature’s most awesome predators in Tiger Territory, learn about the natural behaviours of Sumatran tigers and discover the conservation issues these creatures face in the wild.
You’ll love heading down to the beach to watch our colony of Humboldt penguins dive, swim, frolic and feed in England's largest penguin pool, complete with large underwater viewing windows. And step Into Africa to observe the elegance and grace of the giraffes before moving on to the magnificent residents of Gorilla Kingdom.
The Secret Life of Reptiles and Amphibians
Hop around the world and experience some of the rarest and most unique reptiles and amphibians on Earth, from the snake-eating king cobra to mountain chickens we're saving from the brink of extinction. With eight different habitats, the Secret Life of Reptiles of Amphibians is an educational tour spanning across the globe, stopping off in the dense rainforests of South America, mountain jungles in Asia and giant dormant volcanoes in the Cameroon.
Meet Shanti, Mali and Syanii
London Zoo's trio of lion cubs names have now been announced! Boys Mali and Syanii and girl Shanti were born here at London Zoo on 13 March 2024 to mum, Arya, and dad Bhanu.
Shanti, the female, is the smallest and smartest. She's very happy to pinch food from her brothers or even mum, and is always up for a wrestling session with her brothers.
Mali is the biggest of the three and doesn't always listen to mum Arya who always keeps one eye on him.
Syanii is the bulldozer of the group and will push his siblings out of the way to get to his food. He's also the nosiest and likes to make his presence known by practicing his roar - a loud mewing sound which will develop as he gets older.
NEW: A pair of capybaras have moved to London Zoo (June 2025)
London Zoo has welcomed two adorable new residents – capybaras Gizmo and Kiwi, the world’s largest rodents. Native to South America, these charismatic animals have already captured the hearts of visitors with their social nature and love of lounging in the sunshine. Now settling into their new home, Gizmo and Kiwi are a joy to watch as they explore their habitat, nibble on grass, and take a dip in the water. Don’t miss the chance to meet this charming pair on your next visit!
NEW: 18 Humboldt penguin chicks have hatched at London Zoo (July 2025)
18 fluffy Humboldt penguin chicks have hatched in a penguin baby boom at our Penguin Beach habitat this summer, and seven of the youngsters are taking their first dip in the big pool.
Having earned their stripes in our custom-built nursery pool, seven of the chicks are graduating into Penguin Beach’s 450,000 litre pool to join the rest of the 63-strong colony, while our 11 youngest chicks are still practising their penguin-paddle.
The chicks are part of an internationally coordinated conservation breeding programme, where we’re helping to preserve a healthy and genetically diverse insurance population of Humboldt penguins, boosting their chance for long term survival by acting as a safeguard for the vulnerable wild population.
