Overview

GET UP CLOSE TO WILDLIFE

Set in leafy Regent's Park amid heritage-listed buildings and beautiful gardens, London Zoo is an oasis in the heart of the capital with just under 15,000 amazing animals to discover.

The Zoo’s biggest experience, Land of the Lions, gives you the chance to get closer than ever before to the mighty Asiatic lions – of which only 400 remain in the wild. You can explore walkways covering the 2,500sqm Indian-themed exhibit.
Officially opened by HM Queen Elizabeth II and HRH Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, in March 2016. It is designed to inform, inspire and excite wildlife lovers of all ages and promises to be an experience unlike any other.

Come face-to-face with one of nature’s most awesome predators in Tiger Territory, learn about the natural behaviours of Sumatran tigers and discover the conservation issues these creatures face in the wild.

You’ll love heading down to the beach to watch our colony of Humboldt penguins dive, swim, frolic and feed in England's largest penguin pool, complete with large underwater viewing windows. And step Into Africa to observe the elegance and grace of the giraffes before moving on to the magnificent residents of Gorilla Kingdom.

Monkey Valley
Transporting visitors to the lush mountainous forest of Central Africa, against the backdrop of a 30ft waterfall and peaceful lagoon, be one of the first to step into Monkey Valley and experience our troop of gravity-defying, high-flying colobus monkeys leaping, lounging, swinging, and snoozing, in their tree-top inspired habitat.

The Secret Life of Reptiles and Amphibians
Hop around the world and experience some of the rarest and most unique reptiles and amphibians on Earth, from the snake-eating king cobra to mountain chickens we're saving from the brink of extinction. With eight different habitats, the Secret Life of Reptiles of Amphibians is an educational tour spanning across the globe, stopping off in the dense rainforests of South America, mountain jungles in Asia and giant dormant volcanoes in the Cameroon.

Land of the Lions
Three Asiatic lion cubs were born at London Zoo in Spring 2024. In October 2025, having reached adulthood, female cub Shanti moved to Chester Zoo. We're still home to Arya and her two male lion cubs, Mali and Syanii.
Our lions at London Zoo are an important addition to the conservation breeding programme, which safeguards a healthy population of the critically endangered species. Surviving only in the Gir Forest in Gujarat, India, the wild population is particularly vulnerable to disease or natural disaster. Recent population estimates suggest that only 600 to 700 individuals remain in the wild.

A pair of capybaras have moved to London Zoo (June 2025)
London Zoo has welcomed two adorable new residents – capybaras Gizmo and Kiwi, the world’s largest rodents. Native to South America, these charismatic animals have already captured the hearts of visitors with their social nature and love of lounging in the sunshine. Now settling into their new home, Gizmo and Kiwi are a joy to watch as they explore their habitat, nibble on grass, and take a dip in the water. Don’t miss the chance to meet this charming pair on your next visit!

Penguin Beach
London Zoo's Penguin Beach recreates a South American beach landscape in the heart of the city, with a colony of Humboldt penguins.
Penguin Beach features a large pool with stunning underwater viewing areas so you can see how our flippered friends fly under water. The 1200 sq metre pool holds 450,000 litres of water.
Our large demonstration area turns feeding time in to an even bigger spectacle than before. Penguin Beach Live features twice daily feeds where visitors can watch the birds diving for their food.
Penguin Beach is a breeding facility for colonies of Humboldt penguins with a special penguin nursery, including a chick incubation unit and a pool where the youngsters can learn how to swim.
